Traditional Portuguese Tile Painting

Level - Open to all. Non potters or non artists can join too.

More Details Here!

Portugal has an enormous wealth in the diversity of ceramic painting styles and techniques. From pieces made on the potter's wheel, hand-painted with large-scale designs, to tiles of Arab origin filled with colourful geometric patterns, and majolica-painted tiles featuring the cobalt blue so typical of Portugal.

From north to south, these teachings have been passed down from generation to generation, century after century, reaching the present day with the exact same processes and traditions. This residency is an invitation to get to know a country's culture through its ceramics, its people, its techniques, and its colours.

Making Your Mark: Creativity And The Ceramic Surface

Level - All levels welcome. Some prior ceramics experience in hand building and/or throwing is advised.

More Details

In this 10-day workshop, we’ll push beyond technique-for-technique’s-sake and explore the ceramic surface as a place for experimentation, intention, and creative risk-taking.

We’ll layer, alter, interrupt, imprint, add, remove, combine, and push conventional processes into unexpected territory. Simple, low-tech methods can produce surfaces with extraordinary depth, complexity, and character when driven by intention.
